Job Description

Ready to take your career global?

Make your mark at one of the biggest names in payments. We’re looking for a Software Engineer - Java to join our ever evolving Cambridge Tech team and help shape the future of global commerce.

What you’ll own

  • Join a cross-functional team of developers, testers, a product owner, and a scrum master, participating in quarterly planning and design sessions using the SAFe framework.

  • Pick up challenging development tasks from the team plan, leveraging your proven software skills to tackle complex issues, and partner with the principal engineer for guidance.

  • Serve as an authorized gating code reviewer, pairing with other engineers to grow the team’s capabilities and ensure quality code delivery.

  • Develop changes in Java, SQL, and PL/SQL for the ecommerce payments gateway operated by Worldpay.

  • Review payment processing business processes, analyze production data, walk through product code, and interpret payments-industry spec documents to scope and specify work.

  • Collaborate with test engineers to scope test coverage and approach, contributing to automated integration and system tests as needed.

  • Design rollout and monitoring strategies for new features to ensure successful deployment, and periodically provide support outside normal office hours for release deployments.

What you'll bring

  • Experience delivering software in an industry where quality is critical.

  • Proven ability to solve complex business problems with software solutions.

  • Strong Java knowledge and expertise interacting with large databases.

  • Database systems experience, ideally with SQL-based Oracle or similar platforms.

  • Familiarity working with large code bases and version control systems.

  • Experience using Linux as both a development and production environment.

It’s a bonus if you have

  • Knowledge of the financial services industry.

  • Familiarity with agile frameworks and methodologies (Scrum, Kanban, SAFe) and their advantages and pitfalls.

  • Experience with AWS cloud technologies and design patterns.

  • Understanding of enterprise compute, storage, and networking technologies.

About the team

  • You will be working on one of the largest-by-volume global payment platforms in the world, focusing intensively on robustness, security, and capacity. Our platform processes over 800 transactions every second and exceeds 10 million successful payments every day.

  • The Cambridge team is a diverse group passionate about building reliable payment solutions. We make Worldpay a success by collaborating on innovative technology, sharing knowledge, and delivering world-class payment services that meet the needs of millions globally.
