Job Description

Ready to take your career global?

Make your mark at one of the biggest names in payments. We’re looking for a Database Administrator Specialist to join the ever evolving Infrastructure Services team and help shape the future of global commerce.

What you’ll own

Being part of the 200 strong Infrastructure Services organization, you’ll help to engineer and deliver the core infrastructure services that power our payments platform. We’re responsible for running some very critical systems, maintaining 20,000 servers via an automation platform, thousands of databases and petabytes of storage hosted from our data centers and public cloud.

The Database Administrator Specialist is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining enterprise‑grade Oracle and PostgreSQL databases and supporting infrastructure. This role includes installing, configuring, and upgrading Oracle and PostgreSQL servers; managing users and access controls; monitoring and tuning system performance; troubleshooting database issues; and ensuring high availability, reliability, and security across both platforms.

What you'll bring

  • Proficiency in Oracle database technologies, including strong hands-on experience with RAC, ASM, performance tuning, high availability, backup, and recovery. Solid understanding of Oracle Database architecture across versions 18c, 19c, and 23ai*, along with working knowledge of command-line utilities, file systems, networking, and database security features.

  • Oracle Exadata hands-on experience and strong understanding of core Exadata features such as Smart Flash Cache, Storage Indexes, Hybrid Columnar Compression (HCC), and IORM. Proven troubleshooting experience across RAC, ASM, Exadata infrastructure, performance tuning, and Oracle Data Guard (physical and logical), including Data Guard Broker. Experience with Exadata full‑stack patching and upgrades is desired.

  • Security expertise: Understanding of security best practices and compliance related to databases that are essential for securing databases and protecting against cyber threats.

  • Problem-solving skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are necessary for diagnosing and resolving database issues efficiently.

  • Communication skills: Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, are important for collaborating with team members, documenting system configurations, and providing technical support to end users.

  • Experience with automation scripts, problem solving, Container Databases (CDB) and Pluggable Databases (PDB).

It’s a bonus if you have

  • Proficiency in PostgreSQL database technologies, hands-on experience in performance tuning, high availability, backup and recovery, and replication.

  • Good understanding of PostgreSQL architecture across versions 12, 13, 14, 15, and 16, including deployments such as standalone instances, streaming and logical replication, and HA frameworks (e.g., Patroni).

  • Experience supporting on‑premises environments as well as cloud‑based deployments (including managed PostgreSQL services).

  • Working knowledge of command-line utilities, Linux file systems, networking, and PostgreSQL security features.

  • Knowledge of PostgreSQL internals, Ansible, OEM and AIOps.

  • Certifications: Relevant certifications such as Oracle Certified Professional (OCP), Oracle Certified Expert (OCE) or Oracle Certified Specialist (OCS) are looked at favorably.
