Job Description

Ready to take your career global?

At Global Payments, we power commerce for millions of businesses around the world. As our business continues to evolve, strong legal partnership is critical to helping us grow, manage risk, and create opportunities for our clients and teams.

This is an opportunity to join a high-performing legal team at the center of a dynamic, global payments business. You'll work across commercial, regulatory, and strategic matters, partnering with teams throughout the organization to influence important decisions and drive business outcomes.

In this role, you'll shape how Global Payments navigates complex legal and commercial challenges, own critical negotiations and legal advice, and create solutions that enable business growth while protecting the company's interests. You'll influence strategic initiatives, strengthen client and partner relationships, and play an important role in shaping the future of commerce.

The Team

This is a new role where you’ll be joining a small legal team of 2 existing lawyers supporting the International business of Global Payments ‘Integrated and Platforms’ (I&P) business division. The I&P business division focuses on working together with independent software vendors and platforms to deliver our products to their customers via platform integrations. The I&P business division is headquartered in North America. The ‘International’ business, however, uses its own independent technology platform and was originally based in Australia and New Zealand, but we are now in expansion mode, having launched in the UK in 2025, and with expansion into Europe planned for next year.

The role is principally commercial, working with our sales teams, but will also provide opportunity for development across Product, Regulatory, and Dispute Resolution and exposure to senior management.

What you'll own

  • Drive successful commercial outcomes by negotiating, drafting, and advising on a broad range of contracts across payments, technology, fintech, and commercial partnerships.
  • Influence business decisions by delivering clear, practical legal advice that balances risk management with growth opportunities.
  • Shape the legal strategy behind key business initiatives by providing guidance on regulatory, commercial, consumer, and competition law matters.
  • Protect Global Payments' interests by identifying legal risks early and creating solutions that enable confident decision-making.
  • Lead complex legal projects that support business priorities, strengthen governance, and improve commercial outcomes.
  • Build trusted partnerships across Global Payments by delivering responsive, commercially focused legal counsel to stakeholders at all levels.
  • Drive consistency and quality in legal operations by guiding contract managers and collaborating with internal and external legal specialists.
  • Strengthen business resilience by overseeing legal matters managed by outside counsel and ensuring effective resolution of complex issues.

What you bring

  • Qualified solicitor or attorney with at least five years of post-qualification experience.
  • Strong experience advising on financial services, payments, fintech, or other highly regulated commercial sectors.
  • A proven track record negotiating and drafting complex commercial agreements.
  • The ability to translate legal complexity into practical, business-focused advice that drives informed decisions.
  • Strong judgment, commercial awareness, and the confidence to operate independently in complex situations.
  • Experience building credibility with senior stakeholders and influencing outcomes across diverse teams.
  • A collaborative mindset with a passion for finding solutions and creating value for clients, colleagues, and the business.
