What does it take to create meaningful change in the workplace? We recently caught up with Ruth Mehdipour, Director of Events, Enterprise & Integrated Platforms, at Global Payments, who has recently been named on the 2026 Empower Future Leaders Role Model list. This list recognizes Future Leaders who are using their voice, influence and experience to make a significant contribution to the inclusion of ethnically diverse people at work.
In this interview, Ruth shares her experiences, her reaction to this recognition, and her top tips for the next generation of diverse talent looking to take their careers global and make an impact.

Hey Ruth, tell us a bit about your role…
I’ve been with Global Payments for almost 5 years, and I lead events for our Enterprise and Integrated Platforms business. I shape our event strategy and build experiences for our clients, partners and colleagues, working closely with our Marketing and Sales functions, as well as our wider organization, to support our business goals.
What’s your favourite part of the job?
Definitely the people. I enjoy working with Globalpayers across the business and bringing people together through events. Every event is different, which keeps things interesting, and it's always rewarding to see months of planning come together successfully.

You’ve recently been named in the 2026 Empower Future Leaders Role Model List. Congratulations! What does this mean for you?
Finding out that I’ve been included in the list is incredible! It recognizes something I care deeply about, which is creating opportunities for others to feel seen, valued and heard. A lot of the inclusion work I do sits alongside my day-to-day role, so this recognition is a reminder that the effort to build belonging and drive positive change really does make a difference.
It has also taught me that some of the most meaningful impact comes from creating spaces for others to thrive. Being recognized in this way reinforces the importance of leading authentically and staying connected to the values that shape who I am.
How do you build belonging and create meaningful change?
I've been a member of BOLD, Global Payments’ Black Inclusion Community, since joining the business. I’m now in my second year as EMEA Co-Chair, and as someone of mixed Jamaican, Persian and English heritage, the community has always been important to me because it creates a sense of belonging and connection. It gives us a space where experiences can be shared openly, while also helping educate, engage and inspire allies. For me, it's about ensuring people feel seen, valued and empowered to bring their whole selves to work.
I also really believe in the power of representation. When people see someone with a similar background succeeding, it can make opportunities feel more achievable. Removing barriers often starts with listening, understanding people's experiences and then taking action to address the obstacles that prevent them from fully contributing or progressing.

What advice would you give to the next generation of diverse talent looking to grow their careers, lead authentically, and make an impact?
There are three things that resonate deeply with me:
Don't feel you need to change who you are to succeed. Your background, experiences and perspective are strengths and aren’t things to be hidden. Authenticity builds trust, and some of your greatest contributions will come from the unique lens you bring.
Be curious, seek out opportunities to learn and don't be afraid to put yourself forward, even when you don't feel 100% ready.
Remember that leadership is about impact, not hierarchy. You can influence culture, support others and drive meaningful change from any role you’re given!
At Global Payments, we win as one team by building inclusive and global teams where everyone feels empowered to bring their unique perspectives to the table. That's why we're proud that Ruth is one of three Globalpayers who have been recognized on the 2026 Empower Role Models Lists. Look out for our interviews with Ben Bello and Kyle Salvati, who have also been recognized, soon.
